H. E. Mrs. Marie Chatarová, a distinguished diplomat, and legal scholar, has had a notable career spanning several decades. Born on March 6, 1963, in Znojmo, Czech Republic, she is a married mother of three children. Her academic background includes a Doctor of Law degree from the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University in Brno, earned in 1985. Mrs. Chatarová has been serving as the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations since 2016, a role that underscores her commitment to international diplomacy.

During her tenure at the United Nations, she held significant positions, notably as President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) from July 2017 to July 2018. In 2019, she assumed the role of Vice-Chairman of the UNICEF Bureau and served as Co-Chair of the Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in May 2019. Additionally, her involvement extended to the Preparatory Bureau of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) from 2020 to 2021, demonstrating her dedication to global development and diplomacy.

Prior to her United Nations assignments, Mrs. Chatarová served as the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Republic of France and the Principality of Monaco from 2010 to 2016. She also held the positions of Permanent Delegate of the Czech Republic to the International Organization of the Francophonie and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO from 2013 to 2016. During her time at UNESCO, she chaired the Committee on Conventions and Recommendations from 2013 to 2015, playing a key role in promoting cultural exchange and cooperation.

Earlier in her career, from 2007 to 2010, Mrs. Chatarová served as the Director of the Diplomatic Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, where she honed her skills in diplomacy and protocol. From 2002 to 2007, she held the position of Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Sweden, marking her initial foray into diplomatic service.
